I stumbled across an English Opening book the other day in a bookstore and I wanted to post here and recommend it.
http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Chess-Openings-John-Watson/dp/1904600980/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278386143&sr=8-1
This is the third volume of a four volume series on the openings. Volume one deals with 1. e4 and its progeny, volume to focuses on 1. d4, volume three focuses on 1. c4, and volume four hits everything else, the bird, the Reti, the Polish, etc.
This book presents very clear information and ideas in the English. I especially found interesting the supposition that White's extra tempo in the reversed Sicilian is often a disadvantage, rather than an advantage. I had never really thought of that.
As a relative chess newbie, I have found the book very readable. I have Kosten's book too, and I find this one much easier to go through. Often, a board isn't even needed, although for the games, it is obviously.
Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up to the other English players.
