Thanks for posting this stuff. I am trying to get into Shogi so it's very useful!!

And I love this guy's blog:
http://shogi.typepad.jp/
He is making a huge effort to bring shogi to the non-Japanese world.
It is also a great place to keep up to date on the professional shogi scene, including all the matches and tournaments.
Although I am playing international chess almost exclusively now, I still love to follow my favorite shogi players.
Here's an example of the kind of link his blog provides. It is a game between the women players Narita Miho (amateur) and Matsuo Kaori (sho-dan):

yes the guy that makes the blog that Amy posted is on this site too and I invited him to join the group. Would be great to get him on here to spread his knowledge
:)
I knew Dan level was pretty good...did not know what San meant but thanks for explaining :)
along with learning Asian chess I am also trying to learn more about the language and culture too
I tried Go but just can not get into that game

Hello everyone, I came here through Takodori-san's blog. ^^- It's always nice to meet new shogi players.
Since this thread is about shogi websites, I feel it appropriate that I just opened a blog about shogi, you can find it here:
http://lashogi.blogspot.com
Some more good websites are:
http://www.playok.com
http://www.shogi.net

BCMShogi
Oh, is this the only good shogi-software?
Also one more important link:

Here's the program I've used for years http://trout.customer.netspace.net.au/ to play shogi, it's free and has a number of variants from micro shogi 4x5 to tai shogi 25x25
I just want to let everyone know that I just started a Youtube video series about Shogi Proverbs, so be sure to check it out. I'll be trying to update often since the videos will be quite small (it doesn't take much to explain a one-line proverb!):

I used it also! Learned to play Tori Shogi (Bird Shogi) with it. Too bad the program creator doesn't update it anymore.
Hey again, I'm going to post a bunch of sites that are good training for shogi.

I'm surprised Shogi-L hasn't been posted yet. It's a Google Group mailing list for people to discuss shogi in English. You can hear many interesting facts and news about shogi, as well as finding out where you can play in a western shogi tournament (although most of them seem to be in Europe). You can find it here:
http://groups.google.com/group/shogi-l
Also, BCM has created a Google Group for BCMShogi with the purpose of offering a place to leave feedback on the software as well as ask questions and even submit your own content to be used by others in the software. If you use BCMShogi, you should definitely check it out.

I'm supprised noones mentioned this, but try out 81-dojo. It is a superb real-time website. The assistant programmer, HIDETCHI, (who incidently is the one adding most of the new features) has a youtube channel with tons of shogi vids. ( and a piano performance playlist, if you want some variety)
The Link is HERE. Enjoy!
P.S. Is anyone here already on 81-dojo? I am.
Arfinwulf
Thanks for the tip about 81-dojo--I just signed up.
Whats your username there? mine is jtt96

Perhaps this thread is old/dead, but I was wondering where someone could play Shogi over the board, here in NYC. I have looked up the normal sites that google provides, but I haven't been able to contact anyone. Thanks!
Perhaps you're talking about nyshogi? I got that when I googled it. Nothing when I emailed the top few people on the list. Unless I'm missing something obvious (very feasible).
