"We come from a dark abyss, we end in a dark abyss, and we call the luminous interval life."

What do you think about this ?

This reminded me of a Nabokov quote which I had to look up:

"The cradle rocks above an abyss and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness".

By the way I'm very knowledgable on Nabokov, you just happened to remind me of a couple of things.

But you asked for an opinion of your quote.  I'll post it later, off to work now.

I meant to say I'm NOT very knowledgeable on Nabokov!  I just noticed I mistyped.  I do like him though & have read some of his works.  This site has inspired me to pick him up again.

Here is another Nabokov quote that seems to run counter to his above quote (unless he was saying common sense is applicable only to the here & now):

"Life is a great surprise.  I do not see why death should not be an even greater one."

I didn't read Saviors of God but it seems he is not considering life as the first cause.

If I am not wrong it was written by Nikos Kazantzakis and yes, it's a book. Unless there's other thing with the same name.

* * *

построим мир - незримый, наш;

THERE are elements of destruction in every life form of creation, a process of death is not the opposite of  life, it's Time - the great destroyer and creator , a concept of time must be understood to deal with every duality, in old indian sense, the answer to Zorba,,is that God needs us as much as we need God. Are you lonely when you are one with your spirit ? Are you afraid to loose control or becoming mad? What is the connection to the past - complete illusion,,just try to write down your memories and read them 10-20-30 years later. Or think where were you before you were born? Now- what comes first : chicken or an egg, it's simple they both change each other in  time , so it's easy to see egg in every chicken,,and chicken in every egg, if time is compressed to infinite point where there is a complete silence, that silence is also a music that never ends in one composition,,Bach came very close to this..listen to his music closely,,there is no beginning or end..many voices are speaking as one,,this man underwent great suffering ,,death of his own children,,and yet suffering music has so much spirit that it creates life everywhere ,, darkness of the abyss is just a fear of death, in reality..there is no death,,as there is no darkess...the pure spirit will always find the light in so called death, just as we start seeing slowly comes to us in a every dark place..John Lennon, Jimmi Hendix,  and many many others in 1960's  have this common with Nabokov and Kazantzakis and Socratis - seeking the Truth...even if there is none...
