I was wondering if there's a group here for Californians and lo and behold, here it is! Hey who wants to play a game the old fashion way? Like at a table, with a real board and a cup of coffee or glass of wine?

i know, Dan.  that is a sad joke passed around one too many times.  very real indeed, but maybe a little camo to hide it.

chess could be next decade's "poker" if enough people start playing.  having a site like this helps.  sad thing is chess is far more enjoyable to play than watch in my opinion and people get discouraged quickly like i was when i started playing as a kid.

Chess playing often involves discouragement. I can vouch for that. I live in Van Nuys and work in Brentwood. I dont know when Id get a chance to go to Hollywood for a game. I get all around town during the day for work. Maybe a lunch break sometime somewhere would work out for a game.
