Eventually, a Olympid style team competition will be introduced on chess.com, using the board system. So if two teams compete, the best player from each team will play on Board 1, the second best from each team on Board 2, and so on. I don't think it has been made clear whether the boards will be pick automatically based on rating or if the team can choose those players. Should it be the second, I was thinking of starting a ladder for our team. I was wondering if there was any interest in that?
Now, that I have some time, I'll explain it a little better.
First, there would be an intra-group tournament to determine the beginning order for the ladder. Winner would be on the top of the ladder, and so on.
From there, members can challenge each other in order to move up the ladder. A challenge is issued from someone lower on the ladder to someone higher. Those two players then a game.
If the upper-rung player wins, they remain in the same rung and loser goes down one rung.
If the lower-rung player wins and is 1-3 rungs lower than the other player, then they switch. If there's more than 4 rungs between them, then the upper-rung goes down 3 rungs and the lower-rung player up 3.
If a player has just challenged someone higher than them, then they can't refused a challenge from a lower-rung player. So players will alternate trying to move up the ladder and defending their position from the lower pack.
Choice of color is random and the time limit is 1/day, otherwise the ladder would take forever to move.
I'll take care of managing the ladder. The only thing the players would need to do is to both message me about the challenge and, after the game, message the result.

I like the idea of the ladder system. It would help the entire group improve and see where they stand. It would probably have to be done quite frequently though.
Well, it would be on going and would never cease unless the group ended. The 1/day time limit ensures that games would finish on a regular basis.

I think it sounds like a good idea. As an addition, there may be a chance for analysis of games after they've been played, so that the group can develop together
Well, I'll get it organized here in a bit; first we need to get a few more people to make it worth while.
