Below are my idea, please add more to make it fun or simple ..., finally we will have some basic principles (not rules), after frankly and friendly discussion.
1. the admin of this team will call, start and run the tournament, the tournament only accept the players from this team.
2. the type of tournament could be unlimited by the combination of setting below:
- knockout or any other forms, we could use the form of OTB.
- 10 minutes, 20 minutes each game, or other time limit.
- Min and max No. of players.
. Different rate range
- The best players of some teams, or any members of some teams.
- Game between countries
...
There are some tools for managing the tournament, see:
http://www.chess.com/downloads/tournament+management
cnwlwzj
what's these softwares mentioned above?I don't know the function of them!
the management of live chess tournament is mannul, see the example below show how it is:
http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/live-tournament
(Thanks for TalFan to organized it, I believe he is the 1st one at chess.com doing this)
if lots of member attend the tournament, we need so tools to asssit us, the linking above show some tools, suggest to download them to study, if you want to be the admin to run some big tourmament at this team.
I am a new chess gamer and have no any experiance at the real tournament, so need you guy to help and advise.

i'm new here and not sure what to do?
we will arrange some live chess tournament later.
drakesdman
here are my ideas
we now have 16 people so that would be a good number for the tournement
it would be groups of two and the winner advances
preferably a 10/5 time control
and the admins in charge of the pairing would keep it posted in the forums
Not all these 16 members will attend the tournament, so I will sent 30 invite each day from now on (30 is max set by chess.com), after the member reach 25-30, we could start the 1st tournament as your way, and more tournament based on more different rules, such as Swiss paring.
and two issues need to find the soluction:
- How to do the two players in different timezone ? how they find the suitable time to play the game ?
- If the player A challange the player B, but B refuse, then A vs B should be 1:0, but how can we know and prove A already challenged but B refuse ?
if A challenged B to a 15 10 game and B doesn't have the time say he's already been on for an hour and a half and it's time for him to go to work or bed then it wouldn't be fair to say forfitted anyway.
We'd have to start by saying when were mainly on to make sure the games happen.
Also it would be a good idea to have a page with the standings so everybody knows who they need to challlenge.
no need, just use the live chess function of chess.com

I think a way is to state a long time to play the game/s and if A vs B game hasn´t been played in the state time the score could be 0:0 (both out).
e.g we could have a week to play our game. Me i´m from Spain and if my opponent is from Australia (and we know it at first time thanks to the standing page that suggest drakesdman); maybe we couldn´t play from monday to friday but be sure we would try to play the game in the week-end (if not both out).
I don´t know if someone could be interested in be out in exchange to remove a partner from the tournament, but if this happens it should be reported to the admins
Conitinuing my example of a week to play each round (from monay to sunday),
if we had state that the round begins a day (e.g Sunday 24:00 GTM hour), then we can have a period to write in a especific post when we are going to play (if someone hasn´t posted-->out). Then the hour would be stabilished and if someone doesn´t appears in the live room it would be easier to report it to the admins
"if A vs B game hasn´t been played in the state time the score could be 0:0 (both out). "
this is the same what I thought, maybe we have to follow this rule before we find the better soluction.
actually, even chess.com launch live chess tournament in future, this is one of trouble need to be solved.
thanks, chesstern, look forward to some tournament organized by you soon.
I´m gonna launch a tournament.

it sounds good to me but i'd prefer that we just play 1 game with the lowest raated player being white (or just have the color can be random)
also if group a and b in round 1 can't do a game and their both out then there would only be 3 people in round 2
if that happens should we have the highest rated player automaticly advance in that round and then the rest play normally?
1.Ok i think you are right, it´s better one game and i suggest random´s one (i change it).
2.With a 16 players tournament we can make a standing page with the hours that players can play and try to organize all well. Maybe a good idea is to do little tournaments with the 3 groups A,B and C and winners play in a little league or so (to tally the table it would be better 4 time zones).
Think that if things goes well we can make the table of 32 participants (if we have eg 28 players top 1-4 players would begin from second round), and in this kind of pairings it would be difficult to organize the dates and times. So i suggest to continue with my idea in chesstern´s tournament and try to organize times in a standing page in drakesman´s tournament (yours )
3.I don´t think that´s a good idea in my tournament because higest player could be suggested not to search a way to play.
