What's the thought on "pruning" inactive members from the group?  The Southeast USA group has done it.  I think it helps to bring reality back to the overall membership.

Chess.com's gross membership is impressive but is it realistic?  Should we count every person that joined for a short time & has long since gone?  Whether it's the site or our group; do you think it's a subject that needs to be addressed?

Sounds good.  What are your criteria for deciding who needs to get cut?

One group I was in removed members who hadn't logged in for over one month.

One month is a too harsh.  I would suggest a year or mabye 18 months as a baseline.  I did a quick scan and saw some haven't logged on in years.

Perhaps we could message those near the one year mark & encourage them to participate.   If at 18 months they don't re-join, then prune them out.

    Sound fair enough?

6 months inactive....that should be a good test for the inactive and the just sleeping...

6 months?  Again, I think a bit harsh.  Who knows what a person may be going through in 6 mos. or a year.  Illness, family problems, moving to a new location, etc.  There's no need to add insult to injury.

When I talk about pruning; I mean the truly deadwood.  Just take a look.  When you come to the group page; search the full members.  You'll see some that have not logged on since 2009 & even 2008.  These are the people we don't need to inflate our membership, imo.

What about a person's right to join and play as he, or she, desires ? I am just playing devil's advocate here. I actually favor a 6 month time period...Cool
