Hello,
I stumbled upon your group, joined, and wanted to say hi. I'm Bob and I live in Hammond which is on the shores of Lake Michgan and borders Chicago. And I'm not sorry to say that I am a Bears fan!
I played chess (very) casually many years ago and recently picked it up again when my son, who is currently 9, discovered it last year. He beats me pretty regularly but then again he did earn a spot at the state scholastic tournament in Anderson the last two years. We will be heading to the scholastic state team tournament in Terre Haute on April 25th. I'll be coaching his schools team next year.
Do you play games against each other or just against other teams?
Bob
Hey Bob,
Well- I'm just down the road in good ol' Valparaiso. I'm attending law school for now and am originally from Liberty, IN south of Richmond on the east side of the state. I have family in Terre Haute.
We play against each other- usually I just see who's in our group and then challenge them directly- but a inter-team tourney sounds fun. We also play other groups.
Hope your son has a good run in the scholastic tournament. Welcome aboard!
Andrew Bryson- admin.
Hey guys,
Since I never introduced myself since joining a week or so ago- I'm going to steal a page from Bob's book and introduce myself as well;)
My name is Steve, and I'm a bit farther down the road from both of you in Fort Wayne, IN, currently attending IPFW and majoring in Philosophy. Chess is a recent hobby of mine, and I have lots of fun and challenges playing great people on this website.
So hello everybody- glad to help represent Indiana with the rest of you!

I'm attending the Team State Tournament this year--look for IPS 91. See you there!
I'll be with Morton Elementary. Look for the bright yellow shirts.
Hello guys,
My name is Brandon, and I am from a small town called Winchester. Home of the world's fastest half-mile speedway. I was a club president in high school, became really great friends with my coach and I have been playing periodicly ever since I graduated in 2004. I remember the Anderson and Terre Haute torneys pretty well, it is unfortunate I never came home with a 1st place trophey, the competition there was just way out of my league.
I am proud to represent the great state of Indiana and be part of the team.

My name is Galen. I'm from Indianapolis and just started playing in the last year. I'm 29, a woodworker, and went to school 91 for first grade.
Hello Team Indiana! My name is Tim and I live in a little town called Shirley, which is about 40 miles East of Indianapolis. I own my own computer repair/maintenance business and I build custom PCs. I would be happy to work for anyone that needs me. Of course, friends (Team Indiana members included) would get a discount Anyway, I am just learning how to play chess, so I am not very good but I plan on improving. Thank you for letting me join the team!
I love your profile picture "Tim".
Why thank you!
Hi my name is Chris from kokomo, ind as of yesterday i won the Indiana state class B championship with3.5/4.Im just looking for people near me to drop a line to.Im really happy because my uscf rating will get back where it should be with a post of 1760!.
Indianapolis northsider here, (actually just over the Hamilton County line near College Av.). I'm 54, coming off a 10 year vacation from chess, and another woodworker. (Also, an ex-Chicagoan, so I like the Colts AND the Bears, which made the Superbowl rather interesting!)
I've seen mention of some local tournaments or gatherings, but mostly for blitz or quick. I much prefer longer time controls or casual games. I miss the old monthly Wednesday night tournament (one game every week for four weeks) at the food court in the now defunct Eastgate Mall. Dang, suddenly I have a craving for Gai Pad King!
Hi,
I just found this thread (though I joined couple of days before). My name is Murali and I moved to Bloomington last year. So I consider myself as Hoosier (). I haven't started playing OTB yet but played in my childhood (never won any trophies though). Do we have any activity such as team play/vote chess?

Not sure if anyone reads this anymore, but what the hey, here goes... something. ;-)
I'm 29 and currently living in South Bend while I attend Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in nearby Elkhart, working on a MATS (Master of arts in theological studies) in theology and ethics. I'm originally from Petersburg, all the way down south, and I lived in Evansville for about 5 years after graduating from the University of Evansville (Go Aces!). So I moved from just off the Kentucky border all the way up here to just off the Michigan border.
I used to play occasionally for fun but got out of it for a long time and never really developed much tactical acumen, so I kinda feel like I'm starting from scratch. I started playing again both because I need something to put energy and thought into that isn't directly related to my school work (writing my thesis, while interesting, can at times be one of the most mind-numbing experiences of my life) and also because I need something to help me with my focus and concentration (diagnosed with adult ADHD in 2004).
I'm a fan of IU basketball, Notre Dame football, the Colts, Pacers, and St. Louis Cardinals. The only team from Chicago I can bring myself to support is the Chicago Fire (MLS) though I'd like to go over for a Blackhawks game sometime and let's face it, even though that awful team plays there Wrigley Field is still a pretty darn good place to watch a baseball game.
So yeah, that's me in a nutshell. Cheers!
I also wonder if anybody reads this. I am a 50-year veteran of chess in Indiana. I have seen many chess clubs come and go. I was a member of the Indianapolis Chess Club in its heyday in the 60's. Robert Byrne was a member, and he occasionally showed up at the club in the top room of a hotel downtown. I am doing research on all chess activity in the state. If anybody has information about their community and club and tournament activity, let me know.
