think for a minute. Back in the Bronze age, only the really really precious things were made from bronze. Everything was made of clay, EVERYTHING. houses, wells, all dishes and even the common people's "silver" ware, furniture, and everything they ever made themselves, were almost always from clay.
Now, if you, or your society knew of clay as the best possible building material, the material man used for all his own creations, and knew absolutely nothing about the universe, how could you possibly NOT have created for yourselves a god who had built YOU out of clay also, and revolved your religious myth around that. The history of the evolving human mind would not have made sense if people during that period had not done so.
So how about today? We know enough now to paint a very good picture of how we formed. yet people still believe in this same damn god, in the same damn book that those ancient folks wrote following centuries of spoken myths passed down generation from generation. Some right here in america actually still believe in all that clay business, had never even figured out the common sense outlined above. Most others realized that particular bit wasn't true, but then they don't have the sense to realize that the whole damn book is nothing but a piece of ancient history that we need to evolve past wanting.
The vast majority of people have imaginary friends because they were raised in that type of environment. It's a comfortable idea for them as adults and the best part is, there is no independent thinking. Just pure acceptance.
Evolution is a fact. We may not know everything about our existestence, the formation of the universe, etc. but we sure don't say "God did it", and let it be. If that was the attitude of some of the greatest minds to ever walk this earth, we'd be in serious trouble.
Besides, the entire idea of eternal life(dream of mortals who have gotten greedy) doesn't appeal to me. Sounds more like torture. Eventually reason and science will win but you can bet your a**, there will be those fundamentalist nutjobs who will do everything in their power to slow the progression of science and reason.
