Do you think that there is a fundamental difference between micro and macro evolution or do you think that one just grades into the other given enough time?
Timotheous
My view is the latter. I think that the distinction between micro and macro evolution is an arbitrary one that creationists exploit to be able to claim they accept the evidence of evolution, without having to accept the implications.
gksalf10
Me too, but I'd like to keep looking for newer and better explanations.

I think Tim expressed it well...perhaps we need to post the links from this group to those wearing God-tinted glasses for a real discussion? They do make our world challenging & fun!
Herakles
I had a discussion with a creationist once who claimed that micro evolution was a fact but not macro evolution. My reply was that if seconds exist so do minutes and hours...

Well, I have to disgree here. I honestly don't know (or care) much about creationism, but the term "macroevolution" is valid and relevant. It's used very often in the litterature to refer to patterns of speciation, biodiversity, phylogenetic tree shape, et cetera...
It's not fundamentally different in the sense that microevolution underlies macroevolution, just like we can say that physics underlies biology, but it's still a distinct area of study, and the differences go beyond just the time scale. As an image, you can see macroevolution as the evolution of the tree of life, and microevolution as evolution within the branches of the tree.
Both are equally fascinating, by the way ;)

Pardon my intrusion, but i just had to add something to this. I hope you don't mind to much.
From what i have understood so far, is that Micro evolution deals with physical changes with in species/kinds to help them adapt better to their environment.
Macro evolution; as i understand it, is where creatures are said to adapt on a much larger scale, mainly to change into another species to encourage the continued survival of future generations of it. Those that don't evolve are said to dye out or end up with some serious dis advantages.
