Moraine Sedai of the Blue Ajah

Aaronagitated and I were having a friendly discussion on Moraine during one of our games and I thought that others might want to join in. Might be some spoilers since all book speaking of her are open.

One thing I mentioned to aaron was about how I felt that she was one of the more boring characters and that she was also holding Rand back (as best she could) and that is why Jordan got rid of her for the time being. He was trying to develop Rand into his own character better and he was also running out of things to say about her.

Book 11 said that she will probably be brought back just in time for the last battle so what do others think she will do and most importantly, why bring her back? She is no longer needed. Rand is practically at the last battle. Wonder what Lan will feel if anything or even care? Wonder if she really would have slept with Rand too!?

I liked the character of Moraine Sedai. True she was holding back Rand a little, but I do not believe that is why Jordan killed her off supposedly. She was the only Aes Sesdai that Rand trusted. She was kind of like a comfort zone for him. Most of the Aes Sedai were trying to control Rand, she was trying to guide Rand and keep him alive. One cant finish something without revisiting the beginning. Bringing Moraine back makes the story come full circle in a sense. Oddly enough that is the whole point of the Wheel of Time.

Couldn't be more right about it being the point of the Wheel of Time, but once she comes back, what difference can she possibly make. If she makes the difference between the light beating the dark then she could potentially be more important than Rand. I am not trying to say she was a bad character, but I haven't missed her.

I bet this might put a spin on things in some people's mind's but one of my most vivid memories of the entire series is when they are all traveling out of the waste and Moraine uses saidar to spy on Rand in his tent when he was reading a book and started laughing and handed the book to Asmodean. She then tells Egwene that he needs to learn to use saiden and but must be careful how he does it. I think that she knew that that was Asmodean which makes me wonder if she had anything to do with his death. Jordan said we would find out in Book 12 and she is coming back in book 12 so.... Surprised

Dont read if you havent read the prequil:

I should have waited till I read the prequil to decide why he is bringing Moriane back. Moriane says repeatedly in the end of the prequil that she is convinced that Cadasune is dark ajah and I think she will be brought back just in time to confront Cadasune. Min's viewing that Cadasune is going to make Rand and the Ashaman learn to cry again does not have to mean a good thing. She might be like the other Aes Sedai in book 11 that keeps a watch on Rand's room from the door way who Rand thinks is jealous. That one is just trying to get Rand to the last battle to be defeated and I think Cadasune might be the same.

I cannot think of anyother reason to bring Moraine back and everything that happens in these books has a purpose even if it take 10 books to reach that purpose. Now how many people think I am WAY OFF?

I bet Tarmon Gai'don begins before she, Mat and Thom get to Rand. I have a feeling she is a character that is supposed to arrive 'just in the nick of time.'

I always thought she had Rand's best interest at heart more so than the other Aes Sedai, but that she also took her responsibilities to the Tower serious.  Plus there were things going on or information she had that she could not divulge to others.  More later-

Also, remember the age difference between Moiraine and the boys- she was old enough to be their mother and probably thought of herself as such, even though she may not have realized it.  Parents are under no obligation to explain every single detail of every single decision they make to their children.  Of course the problem here is that she wasn't their mother.

I always pictured moiraine looking like Madeline Stowe.
