One thing this transplant misses about NY (I know, I've seen the bumper stickers that say "I don't care how you did things up North") is public places to play chess. There were a number of parks with chess tables where people would play in nice weather. You didn't need a club or group to plan to meet. You just showed up & found yourself a game. Anyone have anything like this where they live?
Not me. We have parks and deer!
Zembla, I too live in Matthews and always thought the area by the Library and train tracks was a perfect spot for some summer afternoon chess, too bad there isn't some tables there.
I have had the same thought about Stumptown Park or Dilworth Coffee Shop. I guess chess players think alike. Who knows, if a few more Matthews players materialize maybe we can get something going. Rollup boards work for me.
