I just finally found a program tonight that can allow us to play live over our own internet connections by using server / client chess software called netchess.  I'm sort of computer sauvy so it only took me a few minutes to figure out how to use this.  Is anybody interested in organized tournaments, matches or just friendly matches like this?  Let me know.  It requires giving out ip address if you are the server, and client would type the server ip address in the software (host).  Anyways it would definitely seem like fun!

server is the person hosting the game, say John Bartlett (server aka host) had an IP address of 73.64.22.5 and Sally Mae (Client) wanted to play him, they both first would start netchess.  John would click network(tab) in netchess, and click on the server option John would type his name in and choose a port (default port is (55555).  John would than click ok and wait for sally.  Sally would click on client and in the "your name" box type in sally, and in the server ip address box type in Johns ip address, along with the port if John has changed it from the standard port.  Sally would than click okay and their game would begin.

To get the ip address in windows

    go to start run

    type cmd

    than type ipconfig

    to see ip.

If you are running a linux/unix based system and need how to learn how to do it that way let me know.
