I am usually quite wary of any changing or adapting of the Holmes and Watson characters, and I tend to shy away from anything but the traditional depictions. However....
I have been blown away by the show "Sherlock" starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. (Yes, I know the show came out last year, but it wasn't shown here in the States until fairly recently. It's shown on PBS in the 'Masterpiece' series.) Even though it's set in modern times (and very well adapted, I must say), for me it's got all the elements of the Holmes stories, as well as the atmosphere. And, of course, Cumberbatch and Freeman are brilliant.
Has anyone else seen it? There are only 3 episodes, each at around 90 minutes, with more on the way for 2012. Of course it's not without its faults, but they are quite minor and easy to overlook.
Thoughts?

I've not heard of it. I'm a big fan of Martin Freeman though (from Hitchhiker's Guide), so I'll check it out!
