No good way to decline the Gambit......

Says Tartakower in 500 Master Games (I think, my copy has disintegrated years ago....). I seem to remember a sample game, after 3 e5, Black sacs the Bishop on f7.

So, I decided to try something, eventually ended in a draw, after mistakes both sides. But please give your opinion of the opening line. I planned a tripple piece sac, but he only took one...

Umm, if I tried that, I'd get my @$$ handed to me.

I think 7.Kxe4 Bf5+ 8.Ke3 refutes the attack. Honestly, I don't think that attack was very sound. But yes, I don't think there is no real safe way to decline the gambit.

    After 7. Kxe4 Bf5+ 8. Kxf5 Qh4

White has 9. g4 which allows the king to escape back to his side via e4.

You know if we just take a step back for a moment and just realize we're talking about 7. Kxe4, that to me is just amazing.

I'm looking foward to looking at more of this tomorrow when I have time, but Roopei, thanks for playing such a huge gambit.

Though it looks fun, I don't think 4. ...Bxf2+ will hold up in anything but blitz. Granted, 4. a3 wasn't exactly great but not a total duck. 6. Ke1 (instead of 6. Kf3, moving into the line of fire voluntarily) and the attack is thwarted, for example: 6. ...Qh4+ 7. g3 Nxg3 8. Nf3! Qh5 9. Rg1 and Black will find it difficult to reinforce his attack.

P.S. Had White played 4. h3? instead of 4. a3, that would be a completely different matter. That move seriously weakens the g3 square and now 4. ...Bxf2! looks justified. Howard Stern played a very nice game involving this piece sacrifice: http://budapestgambit.blogspot.com/2008/11/howard-stern-playing-bg-declined.html
