One of my favorite openings, that noone wants to play (seemingly) anymore. I will contribute to this but I have to waite for the weekend When I can find a little more time. If you want, challange me to an unrated game and we can go through the opening moves....

hmmm, i would like to learn a good black opening, right now i know Philadors for e, and tarrasch for d, i think i would like to learn another e rank opening, as in when white plays e4

After 8. Nxc6 dxc6  9. Qxd8 Bxd8 10. Bb3 White has the better position and I believe the better game.

Correct was 7.... Nxd4 8. Qxd4 c5 9. Qe3 =

Thanks for the TG supergamer. As I said, the Ruy Lopez at one time was a favorite opening of mine, but it is a very complex opening. I say that in the aspect of understanding the game's objectives and without understanding the long term strategic objectives of an opening one cannot create a solid or sound plan.

After losing more than winning I switched from an e4 opening as white, and the Sicilian c4 as black as d4 openings are generally less dangerous because the have a tendency to keep the center closed and thus a little safer (for a while at least).And it reserves the e4 pawn for later use.

Rather than point out any particular moves in this game, I will say that my tactical plans were based around your undeveloped Bishop on c1. The Bishop kept your Rooks from connecting, which suggested a back rank Checkmate...which I know you saw as you did not take the Bishop I offered you on 19....f4! Good eye there . Not wanting you to develop your Bishop, I moved mine to e5 and forcing the protection of your b2 pawn. The move Qh4 was more of a manuevre than a real attack because g3 (for example) easily deflects the threat. My next move was Qc4, which I believe wins your d5 pawn.

The point is: whenever possible all tactical threats should also help develop your pieces towards a strategical end. Or tactical moves need to have alternative motives...to say it another way...if plan "A" does not work, there MUST be a sound plan "B".

Alright, I need to start looking into some other opening to study. Anyone have some suggestions?

The Gueen's Gambit is a good opening to study; 1. d4 c5  2. c4 ...  With this opening you are claiming the center, the c-pawn is a gambit pawn as it is not currently protected. However, if Black takes and tries to keep the pawn it is usually detrimental to their position.

Usually, the pawn will be declined and a closed position results. There are plenty of defenses Black can choose and White has plenty of attacks that he can put into action. Obviously it is not without its complexities but is safer than e-pawn openings.

Feel free to look over some of my games where I play White, it is a fair be that you will see the Queen's Gambit opening.

Let me know if I can answer any questions you have about the opening, although far from being an expert at it, I will try and get you the best answer I can.
