Hello Everyone!
This will be the thread where people can suggest specific openings that they would like to practice. If you have an opening that you'd like to suggest, please add it to this thread along with a diagram for everyone to see.
For the first group tournament, I am starting a 5 person tournament featuring the King's Gambit: Declined, Classical Variation: 1. e4 e5 2. f4 Bc5
(send me a message if you are interested in joining)
here are t
I'd like to try out some scandinavian openings ( 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 )
...and also learn about the dragon. I'm not certain about the lines of that one though but at least it sounds cool :)
to thetman: we should stick to specific book openings. please see here.
to bjazz: how about the Scandinavian Defense: Modern Variation (B01) (as seen below). there are many variations of the dragon i believe, so you may want to look at some and pick one in particular.
Hi Trigs. I would love to try out the King's Gambit, but I think in general it would be better to leave the options open as far as possible - for example, I'd rather play a King's Gambit opening tourney and then decide whether to accept or decline than to play a specific line - I would find this much more useful for my purposes of learning openings. If you can make it an E4 E5 F4 tourney then I'm in!
I feel the same about most openings - let the players decide what line to take after the important opening moves that give the opening its name (with some exceptions).
I'd also like to have a go at Bird's Opening - closely related to the King's Gambit.
A couple of fun openings that could be tried which I play:
Scotch Gambit
Reti Gambit (anti-French: 1.e4 e6 2. b3 d5 3. Bb2)
first of all u must learn tacticts and strategis im telling cuz ur opening taste is awful,so yeah i play very sharp openings like silican(najdorf, sevenengeni),grunfeld, benoni, marshall gampit, spain opening, and ponziani opening.if u wanna play peaceful play then just play c4 english opening or with blach 1.e4 e6 french opening :DDD
First of all, no one here is arguing that only learning openings is important. Obviously tatics, strategy, middlegame, endgame, etc. practice is just as important.
Second, we are all here to practice various openings (either good or bad openings according to your opinion). Therefore, feel free to suggest an opening you'd like to play. If other people suggest openings that you'd rather not play (because they are "bad"), then i suggest that you do not try to enter those tournaments.
Hello people.
I would like to learn about the Benko gambit:
Or the Poisoned Pawn Variation of the french:
Eh, can we play common openings? Ones you could actually use in games?
For example, the Slav or Semi-Slav in response to Queen's Gambit?
Common openings are great, and I'm sure there will be tournaments for openings such as the Slav and Ruy Lopez etc., but there is such a lot of literature available on these openings and they are well covered in games explorer.
I'm keen to play slightly more offbeat stuff that I want to surprise opponents with - like the KG or Bird's or the Benko. The literature on the KG and Bird's is pretty scanty, so if we have the chance to investigate lines of these in an unrated tournament then it fills in some gaps.
Still - the more, the merrier, so bring on the Slav too!
feel free to post any and all openings you are interested in practicing in this thread. if you haven't noticed, i've just been going in order of the one's listed here and creating tournaments for them. i'll add the slav (my personal favorite response to the QG) as well as the ruy lopez.
i am personally more interested in trying out different and unusual openings, but obviously all suggestions will be welcome.
i'm a begginer in chess. i have learned some openings, but all of them are kings pawn. i would like to learn some queens pawn openings, we can have an unrated tournament with that focus. i also think that experienced players should participated. they can give us tips.
Here is an interesting opening. Enjoy!
The French Winawer (don't know if it's spelled right) or Classicl variation and this.
I also forgot to mention the slav and semi-slav.
Hello,
Was there already a tournament with the King's gambit (last year maybe)? If not, I would like to practice it.
Also, just a side remark, I am in the French Advanced tournament (eight players) and seven games at a time was a bit too much for me. I'd prefer three to five games. What do other people think? (Or does the tournament director pick a size once s/he knows how many people are interested?)
Thank you for animating this group and organizing those tournaments.
Cheers,Alex
I used to play king's gambit almost always previously, but it seems that it's gone pretty outdated. Now I'm mostly into queen's gambit
Hi, I am a relative inexperienced chess player and I have just started looking into various openings - concentrating for now on 1.e4 openings. Before I found this Group - I am excited about being a member, I started two tournaments:
1 - Open Sicilian Tournament B32
http://www.chess.com/tournament/open-sicilian-tournament
2 - Scotch Opening C44
http://www.chess.com/tournament/lets-play-the-scotch-c44
Feel free to join. We start as soon as the field is complete.
I'm a fan of King's Gambit, Queen's Gambit, the Sicilian (Dragon variation and others) and I'm even starting to get my head around the Nimzo Indian.
However, an opening that I have a lot of fun playing is the Danish Gambit.
I'm not convinced it's the most solid of openings for white but it does make for an exciting game :)
