If you are like me and just finishing the series... again.... and you are looking for other fantasy books to read, I figured people with ideas of other good authors might like to drop their suggestions here. All opinions of authors and their books are welcome.

Terry Brooks' Shannara series is good.  And for those who like Sci Fi/Fantasy, the Star Wars books are great.

I read the Memory, Sorrow, Thorn series by Tad Williams right before I read Wheel of Time. It was what got me started in the fantasy area of books. It is just like the lord of the rings but a faster read then Tolkien. Smaller words and more action sort of thing. The 4 books are pretty good and the ending I felt was somewhat suprising but it is far from Wheel of Time in both scale and maturity. I have been told that Otherland books by Tad Williams are better and picked up the first one years ago but never actually started reading it. Still have it in the wrapper lol.

a series i like even better than wheel(i know, i know) is the 'a song of ice and fire' it starts with  'a game of thrones' the author is george r.r. martin. in my opinion one of the finest stories ever. i actually found martin waiting for lord of chaos to come out. martin has no trouble killing off characters that you will come to love so, be warned. i'll add more if anyone cares. have a great day.

s&m- steak and mushrooms?

I also read Memory Sorrow Thorn, got as far as Vooyage of Jerle Shannar half way.  The Belgariad and The Mallorean series by David and Leigh Eddings are recommended.  I am reading Daughter of the Empire right now- Janny Wurtz is the author, based on Feist's riftwar saga.  Its pretty much a chick book, I am reading it for my wife, but it isn't bad at all.  Afterwards I plan on reading Jim Butcher's Dresden Files.

Heres an oldie, but a greatie, the Dune series. Frank Herbert was way ahead of his time. This was a true classic. Has everybody here read these?

If anyone ever read Wizards First Rule, or the other sword of truth books, it's now a tv show, I saw it tonight, it wasn't bad. Give it a watch.

never heard of it. I am reading Elantris right now by  Brandon Sanderson. It is pretty good. Some what slow beginning but it picked up after the first 60 pages or so. I will decide at the end if I recommend it.

I read Wizard's first rule, and did like it, but the more I read the series the more he seemed to be blatantly ripping off jordan.  Its been a while, so I don't remember everything, but his "sisters of the light" and his desert dwelling indian people who saw the main character Richard Cypher sounded just too familiar.  As for the tv show, I haven't seen it, but I always thought Richard would look more like Terry Goodkind (the author) does on the back of the book, and not some effiminate prettyboy who probably paints his toenails like the guy I've seen on the cover of the recent reprinting of the book.

I noticed Darrin mentioned the Rift War Saga by   Raymond E. Feist . It is a great series of books, and not extreamly long. As soon as I can remember the name of it there was another set of 3 books I read a long time ago....

Daughter of the empire is one of three books and they were written with Raymond E Feist not just Janny Wurtz. Just thought you should know

There is a new author from Australia called Kylie Chan the first book in the series is called White Tiger.  There are only three books written so far but she is one of the best reads I have come across. Smile

I finished reading Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. It was pretty good. The ending I thougth was really good. It took about 80 pages to get into it but once you got that far it flowed pretty well and was an enjoyable book. Since it was the first book he ever wrote, and it has been a while since he wrote it, I now have confidence that AMoL will be a pretty good book. I give Elantris a 3.5 out of 5
