There has been a serious proposal to create a playoff system for the World League, to enable teams from different divisions (i.e., teams of different sizes) to be included. The playoff would happen the year after the World League was played, e.g., the Championship in 2012 would take place after the 2011 World League was completed. Below are some of the details that were put out for discussion. Please send back your forum comments about whether the 15 board match round robin is a good format, and whether Team USA Southeast ought to compete (we can opt out), since these playoff games in 2011 would be in addition to the regular 2011 World League matches that Team USA Southeast will be playing.
Qualifying Stage: WL 2010. 32 teams from WL 2010 will be promoted to WCC 2011 Group Stage. (20 from Div. A, 10 from Div. B, 2 from Div. C) [If this goes through then Team USA Southeast, as one of the 20 active teams in Division A during 2010, would be seeded as a qualifier.- ValleyBoy]
Groups Stage: Teams will be divided into four groups of 8.
Each team will play every other team in their group. (7 rounds)
Two top teams from each group will advanced to the Final Stage.
Final Stage: Eight total teams. Each team plays every other team ( 7 rounds)
The winner will be the winner of WCC.
Setting.
Min and Max 15 players. (Best 15 players from each team will play) *To be discussed*
3 days/move. Group play would be completed by June, and after a summer break the finals would wrap up by the following January.

We should absolutely take part...if nothing else because its just another opportunity for great chess matches. Regardless of what it "means" towards declaring a World Champion, any chance to play chess against game opponents should be taken.

does that mean each of the players would have 2 games/match x 7 matches = 14 simultaneous games? sounds like a lot, but it might be fun
Alot, maybe...I personally like to keep at least 10-30 games active all the time...but thats just me. I don't get time to play much live so I get my fix from online games.
Not too many comments after two weeks. I think this is a topic of low concern to the team.
I think its gonna be hit and miss no matter what team it is...players will either be available to play the match or they wont...its gonna be hard to gauge no matter what.

i am in and believe we should participate. What a challenge to us players to be one of the final 15 to carry our Team to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
