It took me a few tries. I eventually ended up going to bars as much and chewing on a LOT of toothpicks for a month or two. It took care of the oral fixation and the fussing about with your hands that's so important to smokers. Whenever anyone asked why I was chewing on a toothpick, I'd tell them why and they immediately backed me and my method, no "hick" jokes from then on. Your real friends want you around for a long time, they don't want you to smoke.
Good luck to all of you trying to quit. I smoked a pack plus a day for over ten years and my willpower is questionable. If I can quit, anyone can.
