Pardon Our Blunders Show Recap: September 22th, 2011
Welcome to the weekly review of Pardon Our Blunders. Every week our Hosts cover varied topics—all chess-related. As regular viewers know, their coverage normally leads to some very interesting and entertaining banter. So now, without further delay, let’s get to Topic #8:
How strong is "The World" in Vote Chess & Other Large Events similar to this?
With the recent "vs. the World" matches like Magnus Carlsen vs. The World, Danny and David vs. Chess.com and the Vote Chess match between Chess.com and GM Alexander Onischuk.
I am including the PGNs of the last two matches that were mentioned:
I can't put the Onischuk vs. Chess.com match up because it's still going on ( I don't know if that would be considered cheating) so I'm not taking a chance. But David said, according to the matches listed, the "World" has a FIDE rating between 2725 and 2750, which rivals a lot of top GMs today.
The game vs. Danny and David allowed discussion so the question comes to mind that how would the World have played without discussion and talking over the moves? Would the result have been different? There was only 5-minutes for each side to move and I am sure some of the higher players on the World side took the reigns and steered the match the way they thought it should go. Overall, the game was close to six hours long with Danny and David resigning at the end as you can see from the posted game.
Now take the discussion aspect away for the next Vote Chess match between Chess.com and our resident IMs and I will guarantee a different result.
