i know it was a knight move to rook at d4 so pawn i didnt know the path after a few tries i got it

I'll admit, I'm getting these because I got the book for Christmas...Although I'm only part way through the Rook section. But I remember both this and the prior one.
And I don't remember how I did when I first saw these in the book though.

Could white save the pawn with 1. g3? - it looks dubious opening the diagonal with the bishop and rook on it, but is it playable?
