Jul 26, 2008 - Many often try to put the Grandmaster title a context and compare it with a .... It requires a player to win aWorld Championship level tournament ...

By the way, thats not my quote but its something I agree  with. Almost 1500 Grandmasters now compared 25 in the 1950,s. Most of todays grandmasters are no where near even qualifying for A World Championship Level  Tournament and if they did they would probably be lucky to just draw A few games and they would lose the rest. It would be the highlight of their chess career. FID'E needs to correct this horrible blunder,  but how? ...  You can,t strip those people of their GM titles so I think A number beside the top 50 showing their current ranking  is the thing to do. Calling them Super Grandmasters sounds dumb to me.  Just my thoughts and I know its been argued about for decades. The GMs that were once in the top 50 in the world can be called Life  Grandmasters.

It is too easy to become a GM today. Awhile ago you had to go though a process and win three GM norms and you would be a GM. Today I think all you have to do is be rated 2500 or more, that's it. And with the rating being inflated like they are everybody is a GM.

If you talk to the GM's of today, they will say that they are much stronger than the GM's of some 50 years or more ago. So who is to say that are not right.
