In Scid 4.0, the menu Play->Training->Tactics brings up a dialog requesting "choose training base" and an empty list.
Does anybody know how to use this - how to create/acquire tactical training databases for use with this feature?
Any suggestions on an alternate way to use Scid for tactics training - similar to the tactics trainer on this site?

I think that this might help, you need to download them. Let me know how it turns out. I have Ct-Art so I don't need this.
not exactly what I was looking for, but useful
It seems, however, that "CT-ART" was really the correct answer anyway - after checking that out I'll be buying it shortly, looks great.... thanks.
If you have the cash then you may want to check out the Endgame Training also, it helps greatly, though you will need to find out the reason why pieces move a certain way in the endgame, as the program shows you the correct move but not the reason for it.
Before buying Ct Art 3.0 though, you may want to look at Convekta's free Peshk@ program. It's more user friendly than CT art (which can be a nightmare to load - I have to run mine as an administrator through Vista); it comes with a free bundle of lessons, but the rest you have to pay for (looking at the webpage you can get ct art 4.0 for it, hmmm...). I tried it, but I couldn't get my Convetka training programmes to run through it, so I uninstalled it. If you buy CT Art through Peshka though, I'd imagine that it's much more user friendly than buying the stand alone version.

where do you download scid 4.0 when I tried to download it it didn't work.
Did you use the following link:
http://scid.sourceforge.net/download.html
The current version is 4.1 (if you download that, don't forget to get the names and ratings files, also availible from this page); follow the install instructions and you should be away...
Let us know how it turns out.
thanks for the help everything worked out great.
Superb! If you're wondering how to make databases, have a look at this post.
