Greetings, fellow Bar Association members!

We now have six people in our merry, little group.  Sopan has suggested we get into a tournament.  I think that is a good idea; now that we are getting more members.

So, I wanted to ask you all, what sort of games would you all like to enter?  Do you all want to enter team matches, group voting games, etc.  Are there any particular groups you would like to play?

I already received one suggestion from another friend of mine who thought we may be a able to get something going with an engineering group.  I thought that might be a good idea.  We could, perhaps, play against other groups of professionals, if there are any groups of doctors, accountants, teachers, etc. out there.  It should be fun!

So, what do you all think about all this, and what kinds of games would you like to participate in?

Good initiativ from Sopan and George, and I hope you will follow it up. Being so few, why don't we start with a little tournament within the group? As we are just 6 members now, it will be 5 games to play for each of us. I assume that's not to much for anyone if the games can be played witout time pressure. I have no ideas about your level as chess players, but I will have noe problems anyway: I will loose all games with a smile if so be - being historical by participating in the first group chess competion (on chesscom) just for the legal profession!

Next step - if this is carried out without problems worth mentioning - will naturally be to play against other groups of professionals, as you mention. That may be harder because we are so few. Bigger groups probably have players on most levels, also several very good players. And I assume that every group will meet us with their best ones (?). But if we can endure some losses without getting sour (I hope), the rest is technicalities that certainly can be solved.

An intra-group tournament for starters is a great idea!  I will get right on with setting it up!

I guess I will set it up as invite only; that way, only members of the group will get to join.  But I will set it up initially for 12 members (my limit, as a silver star member), and if other people join the group, I will invite them to join the tournament.

Also, I guess I will set it up as a three day per move tournament, unless somebody really wants or needs some other time setting?  Let me know.

As to team matches with other groups, I think we will see how we want to deal with that.  There are some huge groups, like The Dream Team, or Fast Players Group, that have huge memberships.  If we play them, there will probably be huge ratings disparities in their favor.  We will see what we want to do about that.
