There hasn’t been any forum activity. Allow me. I’m interested in knowing about everyone’s local celebrations. Not the big ones (Carnival, Oktoberfest, Madi Gras, etc) but the local ones, the ones in your town that are off the radar screen but are a blast. Who knows, someone reading this forum may be on vacation in your area and suddenly wants to make a side trip to catch a cool party that doesn’t show up on brochures. My hometown has a two-week celebration for a two-minute horse race, a.k.a., the Kentucky Derby. Not a small affair, but DAMN what a party.

In Edmonton, we have a summer festival that used to be called Klondike Days but has since been changed to Capital Ex. There's rides, horse racing, lots of events in conjunction with it.

Hokitika is 'famous' for the Wildfoods Festival..which is on soon, in March. There's  weird foods, markets, entertainment, but mostly drinking. People come from all over New Zealand. Here's a link...

In Buñol, Valencia, there's a huge festival called "La Tomatina" every August where a few tens of thousands of people gather to throw tomatoes at each other.  Lots of drinking involved too, obviously.  It's a blast.

I've heard of that!! I SOOOO want to go and try it! Sounds like heaps of fun Laughing
