The Chess Turtle Ladder Tournament Part 2

Here is the Official Ladder Tournament part 2 thread for this group:

This is the official continuation of the original chess turtle ladder (see other thread). We've cleaned it up for inactive members and brought it up to date. The opening order for this part 2 of the ladder tournament is based on the ORIGINAL chess turtle ladder as it was at post #146 in the ORIGINAL chess turtle ladder thread.

I will update the ladder based on games played in the tournament (see rules below) and joining/leaving of members. Whenever we get a new member, I will include them at the bottom of the ladder. Whenever players become inactive, or doesn't respond to challenges, they will be removed from the ladder. They will then have to re-apply. This yields the CURRENT chess turtle ladder. Just to be clear, the order you see below is not the ORIGINAL or opening ladder order, but the CURRENT ladder order.

If you feel we removed you without proper justification, please let us know and we will add you to your rightful position based on the ORIGINAL chess ladder. This option will remain active until March 1, 2011. After that I can't readjust, as it would be unfair to the other active players

If you wish to join the ladder tournament, pIease let us know by posting in this thread and I will add you to the bottom of the CURRENT ladder. If you wish to opt out of this tournament (i.e. you do not want to be bothered with challenges, or whatever) simply let us know by posting in this thread, and I will remove you from the ladder.

    The Rules:

    1.  The goal is to climb the ladder as high as you can.  So you may only challenge someone higher on the ladder than yourself, or accept a challenge from someone lower on the ladder than yourself.

    2.  To be considered part of this tournament, the game must be clearly labeled as a part of this specific ladder.  The challenge and the results should also be posted in this thread so that other members know who is available for challenging, and who is not.

    3.  You may only play in ONE ladder game at a time.  Courtesy would dictate that if you just completed a game in which you issued the challenge to someone higher than you, you should give someone lower than you the chance to challenge you before issuing another challenge.  If no one challenges you after a couple days, feel free to challenge again.

    4.  The challenge must be from the original starting position, and have color assigned randomly.  All other variables are at the discretion of the two players, but some agreement must be reached.  If a player simply refuses to accept a challenge on any terms, they will be removed from the ladder (please let me know if that happens - you may need to send them a message first to get around their settings).  The games may be unrated.

    5.  If the player on the higher rung wins, there is no change to the ladder.

    6.  If the player on lower rung wins, that player now occupies the rung formerly held by the higher player.  The higher player and all players between them slide down one spot as a result.

    7.  In case of a draw, the player on the higher rung maintains his position, and the lower player moves to the rung just below the higher player.  All players between them slide down one spot as a result.

    8.  You may only challenge someone up to 10% higher on the ladder than yourself.  So if we ever get up to 100 active members , then you can challenge someone 10 rungs higher than you.  We round up, so at 32, you can challenge someone 4 rungs higher than you, etc.

I think that covers everything.  If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to post them here.

Allrighty, the new chess ladder has been posted. I've removed anyone that was deemed inactive, left the group or had his/her account removed. If someone feels we removed them unjustly, please let me know by posting in this thread and I will add you to your previous position based on the original ladder (that is if you let us know before March 1, 2011...otherwise it'll be impossible to correct)

I changed the rules, so as to remove anyone that doesn't respond to challenges or becomes inactive. We had a ridiculous amount of inactive members and that just doesn't work. They can reapply at any time. They'll be placed at the the bottom then, which was in essence the same penalty as in the original rules. If you don't agree with this rule change, then please post it here and we can discuss

Well I might as well make the first challenge. I challenge Billium248 for the top spot. Please use the below format to make my life easier and post a link to the game as soon as the challenge has been accepted. Thanks!

Before you challenge, please make sure that person isn't challenged already, or has a game in progress. See post #3 for an overview

One problem is taht under the original rules, the n/a people did count towards how many rungs up the ladder you could challenge; before the cleanup you could challenge 10 spots higher, now 3 or 4 (I strongly recommend we round upwards, at the very least). I fact, I suggest a minimum of 5 spots at all times.

Also, burgerkingchess was already on the list, I suggest we keep him at 21 ;)

Finally, I'd like to challenge Aldrin (#7).

Ok I've removed burgerkinchess' lower ranking. I've also added a rounding up clause in the rules. I don't think we should have a minimum of 5, as there is some charm in slowly working your way up. But that's just my opinion Cool

I've also added your challenge, although it wasn't in the right format Yell

    XavierPadilla

Hi there! I suggest a record is kept about each player's W/L/D history; I volunteer to go to the original thread and see what I can find. Adding his/her rating (at it was at the end of last turtle ladder game played) would be nice, too.

In case you like the idea, "n/a" people shouldn't disappear!

Kacparov showed some kind of philosophical interest in this tournament, but I'm not sure he wanted to sign up. Would you like to invite him?

Buffertigris should be ranked higher than me.

I agree with the idea of a minimum number of rungs, 3, 4 or 5.

Ok I've changed the sequence of the ladder an added kacparov

I'd love to add more data to the post, but then i need some help as to how I can easily copy-paste an excel table into a post. Otherwise it's just too much work.

Gambit78, your challenge is not allowed per the rules (see rule 8) you could challenge at most #28 yellowhippo at this time

I've added the rest of the challenges to the board...please let me know when a game starts and add a link to the game, so people can watch if they want

I updated the link and added the game. Good luck!

Kacparov...if I were you I'd challenge someone yourself. You can challenge someone up to #32 gambit78 (they are obliged to accept, unless they're already in a game/challenge)

Ah, sorry did not see that rule. Anyway the challenge was accepted, but I'll let sandrei know it will be invalid. Pity.
