I read "The Doors - No One Here Gets Out Alive" Book twice long before The Doors movie came out. I've always liked The Doors music, but the book brought everything into light and made me a true fan of Jim Morrison and the band.  I loved the movie and I was impressed with how closely the movie followed the book and Jim's life. Val Kilmer did such a good job, I often forgot that it was a movie and felt like I was watching Jim on tv. To this day, it is still one of my favorite movies...

The movie was very much based on the book No One Here Gets Out Alive.

I remember going to see it in the theatre, and being floored by Kilmer's performance, and the recreation of the first performance of "The End".

It took me about 15 minutes to accept Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison but then I was totally hooked. I thought they overplayed the shaman angle but it is still one of my favorite movies as well. It was had one of the best sound tracks of all time, which for me was a big part of the movie. It seemed to be pretty ballanced showing Morrison both at his best and at his worst (at least it seemed that way based on readings I have done). Although I saw the movie at the theatre soon after its release I also bought the 2 disc version which had some great extras (which I am generally not a big fan of).
