It's not exactly a true story though supposedly it inspired some people who've started similar tree planting organizations.

In my region it's a tradition to plant a tree when a child is born to the family, people from village plant it in their yard or in front of the house, and people from cities get marked (and free) territories on deforested places, where they can plant their trees, it's great, makes the landscape beautiful
