I just wanted to remind everyone in the group that we currently have two 100-man knockout tournaments open for registration:
The first is open to all players, the 2nd is restricted to those under 1600. Please register for one or the other (or both if you qualify). These are one-on-one knockouts in each round, with only a single game to play at a time in each round -- so not too time consuming if you're already registered in other tournaments.
Also, since these are large, 100-man tournaments, I plan to prepare a certificate suitable for framing for each of the winners. I will mail it (no charge) to the winner if the winner resides in North America or in a country that I can easily/cost-effectively send a large envelope. If the logistics of mailing to a foreign winner don't work out, I'll be happy to send the certificate via email as a PDF for the winner to print locally.
Good luck, and I hope to see you across the board!
This is a reminder that I currently have three 100-player knockout tournaments open for registration:
As with others in this series, these are one-on-one knockouts (win both games against your opponent to advance, lose both and you're out of the tournament, split and you both advance), with only a single game to play at a time in each round -- so not too time consuming if you're already registered in other tournaments.
Update: The U1600 tournament is off and running, but the U1800 and U1400 are still open for registration:
The U1400 knockout tournament is off and running, but the U1800 is still open for registration:
In addition, I just created a new set of tournaments highlighting the Sicilian Najdorf opening. This is a very popular opening, so join one or more of these sections (based on your rating) to get some experience with this opening:
As always, win one of these tournaments and I'll send you a framable certificate. Have fun!
Several 100-player thematic tournaments are open for registration:
Sicilian Najdorf (a very popular opening):
Slav Defense (my current favorite response to d4):
And the Caro-Kann (my favorite response to e4):
As always, win one of these tournaments and I'll send you a free, framable certificate. Have fun!
As of 4/14/2012, here are the 100-player thematic tournaments currently open for registration:
It appears the higher-rated tournaments are filling up more quickly. I'll make an effort to invite more 1200-1600 players to our group so we can get tournaments underway for our current members in this rating class.
I just created a new tournament: The 2012 Emanuel Lasker Open. Please register if you're interested. I'd like to see how fast a 100-player tournament can fill.
