[Quoting myself from the ChessVideos.tv forum]

For the ChessVideos.tv group here I enabled Group Matches and Group Vote Chess. Group Vote Chess is like the matches occasionally taking place on the ChessVideos.tv forums, like the CV.tv vs. CV.tv Team Game. One group challenges another group to a game, and all players can vote for (and discuss) the next move their group should make. The move with the most votes will eventually be played.

Group Matches are a little different. They are like over the board Team matches: Every group makes a team of, say, 10 players, and the players are ordered by their ratings. Then the first board of team 1 plays the first board of team 2 in two games, the second board of team 1 plays the second board of team 2 in two games, etc., and board 10 of team 1 plays two games against board 10 of team 2. Finally, the results of all boards are added together to get the final result of the match.

So, is anyone interested in participating in either of the two game types? And if so, any requests for the details of the match? (time/move, initial starting position, opposing team, players per team)

Just reply here if you are interested. If there are enough positive replies (4 would already be enough) I'll set up a Vote Chess Game or a Team Match.

I would play in a vote chess or a group chess match. For time control it should be 3,5 or 7 days per move and any starting position is fine. A group should have at least 3 members but there is no need for an upper limit.

  • gsn

Team Match

  • dspsp123 (3+ per move)

I would play in both matches. For time control for the vote chess 5 or more seems good to me. You would need time to discuss the position and on the internet that takes a bit more than in normal life.

A challenge for a Team Match has been sent to the Chess Unlimited group. 5-10 players for each team, 5 days per move, and rated games.

Chess Unlimited also accepted the challenge I sent earlier. At first sight, their team strength looks better balanced compared to our team. So join that match to play in a more balanced Team match! ;)

Hey, guys, good luck in the match!  I hope you knock 'em dead...  Or at least into next week...  Smile

Ok, I've set up a (for now last) team match. It has a limit of 49 players, and it's 5 days per move again. Go http://www.chess.com/groups/team_match.html?id=415 to join. With the current number of group members for CV.tv (<50), joining shouldn't be a problem :)

That last match has started too. Unfortunately, the opposing team was unable to bring the amount of players we have, and therefore half of the team was automatically removed from the team at the start. Apologies for that!

As an attempt to make it up to those who missed the match, there's a new open challenge, where the minimum number of players per team is not 5 but 10. So if 10 players join, all will be able to play. If more than 10 players join (say 12), then it depends on the opposing team whether the lowest two players will get to play. If the other team then also lines up 12 or more players, everyone can play.

For the above match that just started however, the minimum was 5 (and max 49), and the other team only put 6 players in the match. Therefore only the best 6 of our team were allowed to play (I withdrew to give the number 7 a chance to play too) and the rest couldn't play.

When another team accepts the challenge, you can join in the usual way again. That will really be the last match for a while, since we already have quite some matches running, and I don't want to exhaust you all :)

Hi Phobetor,

Blackadder seems to have made me an admin as well -- at least I have menus that I didn't used to have access to that would let me do all kinds of naughty things if I were inclined to be naughty.  I've noticed we have a challenge from some team based in China that's been sitting around for a few days.  Since I'm not currently involved with the match play and you're coordinating it all and negotiating with the other teams about # of players, etc., perhaps you should either accept or reject it sometime soon.  Just letting it hang out there is rather rude...

I've just accepted it. One day I read they challenged us and thought I should post here asking who wants to join, and the next day I forgot Embarassed

I'll just see who joins and who doesn't. The match is set at 1+ players for each team, so even one player would be enough for the match to continue.

Oh and if you have any requests for team matches/vote chess matches, feel free to just use your admin powers to start one. I've been somewhat less active on Chess.com lately so I'd be happy if someone else takes over (part of) the task of setting up some matches.

Well, I didn't want to step on your toes.  I can certainly push the accept button the next time a challenge comes along, but I don't want to start negotiating match conditions with the admin/captain on the other side.  I'll leave that to you since you're doing a good job of it!  Smile

Frankly, I just don't want to be active at the moment either in playing or organizing.  That's not going to be a permanent state of affairs, but I'm still trying to figure out how to shake my burnout for serious play.  I've finally got my tournament game load down to 3 -- and it still feels like a painful chore even when the remaining games are all 7-10 moves per day.

You didn't step on my toes, at least not as far as I know Smile

I had a more active period on Chess.com a while ago, when I registered for upcoming tournaments. Now I'm not that active and don't want so many games, but only now all those tournaments I registered for start... Frown I come online here maybe once or twice a day now, and every time I have about 20-30 games waiting for a move :(

Imo that's a big problem with this "Online Chess"... It just takes too long! If I want to play chess today, I want to start and finish the games I play today. I don't want to start a game now and continue that game until march 2009 Frown

I got an email for another match challenge from a group called "The Sailors."  So I clicked "accept" and now people can go and join it if they like.

L8erz...
