We have been challenged to another vote chess match against the Thailand Team - do we wish as a group to accept these challenges or should we concentrate our efforts solely against the other county teams. My inclination is to reject them - but let me know your thoughts....

The value of vote chess is in the chat, especially if the higher rated players explain their choices. I ususally look at the board, decide a move, then see what the 2000+ players have said.  This happens less and less, so I don't join with other groups.

I often wonder about the real purpose of the 20 groups or so of which I am a member. They have one of 2 purported aims ( though there may be more), either to improve players or to represent a geographical region. I'm happy to represent Essex, because I've lived here for 20 yrs, but if an aim of the club is to improve it's standing, that can only be achieved by improving the members' standard of play.

I would value vote chess if a general method of play were to be established, for example, the lower rated players could voice their opinion, then  at a later point, the higher rated could say yea or nay, and give a brief reason for their choice. It might be that playing in such a way, lower rated players such as I might just improve to the benefit of gthe group in the future.

Hi Douggie, I whole heartedly agree with your posting. We have 4 vote matches going at the moment and I try to make a point of giving a comment for each and every move. I do not just want players to follow my suggestions though, and would be glad for more commentary - then I certainly could assist with better explanations, when the need arises. Smile

That's excellent, then I think that vote chess is a means by which the lowly might be able to pick the brains of the 2000+ players, and in so doing, may just help someone like me to reach the dizzy heights of 1500 !!  I think that we should continue with vote chess. Thanks for your response robparker.

I think we should accept the Thailand team offer as a gesture of friendliness and goodwill to our chess playing freinds on the other side of the world
