I've been playing a lot of bottleneck slide, so my choices are usually delta blues. Any of the old Blues masters! Son House, Charly Patton, Bukka White, lot of good stuff to listen to and play!

'Nothing else matters' was one of the very first songs I learned on guitar. The first guitar book I ever got was Metallica self-titled. These many years later, the songs that I enjoy playing the most are all classical. I enjoy this style the most because it is the most demanding and leaves the most room for musicality. My favorite individual piece to play is probably 'La Catedral' by Agustin Barrios.

Well Nothing Else Matters ( the very start ) is pretty much the easiest thing in the world. It's all the other parts are a bit trickier (like the solo).

You must mean just the very beginning Em where there is nothing but open strings. The rest of the intro at least takes some knowledge of finger picking and barre chord forms.

As far as the solo, it is kind of tricky in parts, but is definitely one of the easiest if not the easiest of the Metallica solos.

I play the guitar just like i play chess

I improvizing - this is really exciting, and most of the time ends up as a total disaster:) in chess and in gutar either - but sometimes I find very nice solutions

Of course I use patterns - and from that pattern (like the opening in chess) comes out the impro

I can play some easy songs by heart to - but my favorites  are: Janis Joplin's version of Summertime - it has a beautiful gutar part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTFF-BaT0MM of course I'm not able to play that song that well

the other song I know by heart is White Rabbit from Jeff. Airplane http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZY-6Gzmuy4&feature=related

but for most of the songs I have to use the tab

'White Rabbit' has about four chess references. Far out.

Yeah because it's about Alice who was in wonderland and then went through the looking glass, in the first she was among playing cards, in the second she turned out to be a pawn, who becomes the queen in the end.
