Dietmar, timeouts have decided this match - with that said, a team must play complete, so timing is part of it - each team must learn each thread  must be on the field when needed - if not, the battle lost - so, no excuses from NC  - it is, and will always be a pleasure to play your team - Chuck

Looks like the timeouts have become a decisive factor in an otherwise very even and tight battle. Hopefully, we can secure the necessary point to win the match over the board rather than with the help of the clock.

Next time, Scott. It is unfortunate that it sometimes happens but this annoying thing called life can sometimes get in the way of playing chess.

It is for sure a heck of a battle with the outcome hanging on the razor's edge.

Great job Jim - team will do well!  Our biggest challenge is on the middle / lower boards - we as, a team, are very segmented in our talent distribution.  On another note: looked up wisdom in the dictionary , there was a picture of Dietmar! :o)

No worries, Tom, the rest of us will try to pick you up. I would recommend though not to resign prematurely. Your white game is actually even. When I looked at it I immediately spotted the idea of Nxd5 cxd Qxd5 check followed by Ng5 threatening Nf7 check with the idea of a suffocated mate and Ne6 with the fork idea. A quick comp check reveals that this isn't even best but Nd4 would make it dead even. In any case, I would play on just a bit longer and look whether there are any trickeries available to offset an apparent loss of material. There is always time to resign later when the smoke has cleared.

Good luck to all the players! Looks like a dynamically balanced match with the outcome dependent on which team can pull off the necessary upsets ..

Thank you for the kind words, Chuck. It definitely should be an exciting match just by looking at the lineups so far.
