• When playing e4 with White against a non-Sicilian e5 player, we have 3 active solutions: the Italian game, the Three Knights and the Spanish torture. The issue with the Giuoco Piano and the Three Knights can be how dull and symmetrical the game turns to be for White against good Black play. However, the Ruy Lopez has a specific feature the other two openings lack: it allows White to increase pressure on Black's center at move 3, pinning down the c6 Knight, thus forcing Black to mess up his Queen side pawn structure to get the White bishop out of the way. This opening is very interesting, studied extensively and played at the highest level. The goal of this group is to practice the Ruy Lopez together in Vote Chess. Welcome!
