The Cricket County Championship

  • International
  • Formed: Mar 11, 2011
  • The County Championship is a league system consisting of 4 divisions of 8 players, which may rise to a maximum of 50 players in 5 divisions. Players compete and at the end of each season (when all games have completed), players will be relegated or promoted based on performance. The ultimate aim is to become County Cricket champions - to finish top of Division 1. For those relegated, promotion can be achieved by gaining a top place in their division. Top 2 and bottom 2 placed players will gain promotion and relegation.

  • I know there's a couple of Sunderland fans in the league (and maybe the odd Saint). My mate's away so I've got a spare Sports Bar ticket for the game on Sunday (ours are the best seats in the ground!). Anyone fancy it? First to reply.

  • We'll be promoting 3 from division 2 this season, and 4 from divs 3 & 4. This will increase the top 2 divisions to 9 players and keep 3 & 4 with 8, with a view to increasing them to 9 for season 10. There are 4 new applicants waiting to enter into Div 4.

  • You're doing fine, James (IDrinkJack). No chance of you being embrioled this season.

  • I'm not claming to be fast, Rob, and that's one reason why this rule was proposed. I didn't want to have to vote on me losing points! Better if it's automatic, I thought. But hey, we live in a democracy and if most of you don't like it, we'll change or drop it. Don't forget, if there are two slow players in a division, they won't be affected unless one finishes 5 games before the other.

  • Allowing 5 before a penalty should make it a rarity and even then, just the odd point.

  • It's easy to see, in any tournament, where any slowness lies. When the onlt games with dashes against them lie on the same line. Allowing 5 before a penalty shouls make it so it is a r

  • I'm glad we've generated a bit of a debate. Looking at the league as it stands, I can't see anyone being affected this season. The problem has been in the past, sometimes the league can get held up after everyone else is finished. I know people go at different speeds but this rule is pretty lenient. Definition of slowness, Xanthippes, in this case, is 'a lot slower than eveybody else in the division'.

  • i'd say that seems unfair, I have a couple of games against people who are moving slow, How do you know which of the players is slowing it down

  • If the only unfinished games in your group contain you, maybe your a bit on the slow side. :)
