I have been playing chess on and off since I was about 12, being taught the basics by my younger brother, who was a member of the school chess club. I must have played over 50+ games before I won a match, but soon after he grew bored of chess and stopped playing me. I stopped playing too because none of my friends at the time could play and inter-net chess just didn't exist yet (I feel old, yes I was alive before the inter-net existed).
It wasn't until I was 22+ when started playing again. I played a good friend of mine for a while and I used websites like yahoo and pogo until chess.com arrived. I was rubbish though, until I studied the game a little. I began to read books about chess openings and strategy which improved my game some-what. I wouldn't say I was an excellent player, although I'm no push over and I don't like losing. I play for fun more than anything else though. Chess should be a fun game no matter what situation you're playing, winning or losing.
