I was an avid class D chess player in junior high, and then rarely played chess after that, occasionally beating a few novices here and there since then and losing some games to some college chess club players. Over a decade later, I'm getting back into chess, have read many books, am probably class C, and my goal is to hit expert within a year. However, I think chess is just a game with most of the skills being chess specific, so I'm also trying to balance my chess goals with other life goals.
