About Me:
I started playing chess in the 5th grade. I joined the chess club at my school and achieved a rating of 1251 (in 1996). I played chess on and off through the years and in 2007 decided to dive back into it again. By December of 2007, I had achieved an Expert rating (2180). At the end of December, I achieved a Master's rating (2350). In January 2008 when I learned of my chess idol's passing (Bobby Fischer) my heart fell out of chess as did my performance. For about two weeks my performance dropped from 2350 to 1888. After a period of grieving, I started playing chess again to honor Bobby's memory. From February to September 2008, I worked on my chess game and eventually achieved a Grand Master rating (2527) with a peak rating of 2666. I've found that chess game play varies with concentration and experience. I enjoy learning through trial and error. I'll attempt new strategies randomly during game play to see if they work, the worst outcome is they don't and I lose the match. In losing, there is a learning experience which can only help improve your game. I like close games that can hold my interest. I tend to mirror my opponent's play to keep things interesting. If my opponent plays well, I will keep pace. If my opponent is less experienced, I will loosen up my play and perhaps attempt a new strategy. I enjoy discussing chess and am more than willing to help beginners with their game or offer my opinion and advice to any who will listen. I wish you well. Chess Tips Aim to maintain material balance during game play until you can gain an advantage. In timed games, ignore the timer until you have ten minutes remaining. At the ten minute mark, attempt to give yourself a maximum of 30 seconds of thinking per move. Try and make a decision after 10 seconds of pondering. Always ask yourself "if I do this, what can my opponent do to counteract it?" (try to plan at least one to three moves ahead) Trust yourself.
