I'm 38 years of age, employed as a firefighter with Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service. I enjoy football, playing and supporting, BIG Everton FC fan, season ticket holder in the Upper Bullens stand. Love my bike too, Yamaha XVS1300A and getting out on it as often as possible. Also enjoy the Concept II indoor rower for keeping fit and the annual competition at Birmingham NIA. Started playing Chess in primary school, staying in over lunch to learn. Phased out during secondary school as no one was enthusiastic about playing. Do not have any favourite players, style or openings as i'm still in the learning stage after such a long lay off. Hope to pick up some tips from this site and improve my all round game.

How do you gain an official chess rating? Do you have to join an OTB Chess Club and play several games before a rating can be attained or can you achieve a rating by other means? Does your 'Chess.com' rating have any parity with ratings gained outsid...Read more »
