About Me:
I work for a Global company and travel a lot and work odd hours so haven't been able to play OTB chess for ten years. Was shown this site by a friend, it is a godsend, but too addictive. I'm married with three children, two grown up and one teenager. Other recreations are music (except country and western) and Arsenal football club. Learned from my Dad when 8, played a lot when Fischer Spassky was on but never studied. In '78 I read my first chess book (my Dad's) just for something to read and got totally hooked, just as I was doing my final university exams, great timing. I won ratings restricted tnments at provincial and county level early on but after that have played for fun and enjoyed the social scene.

My Chess Style / Favorite Openings:
I played divs 1-7 for three clubs with ratings 1400 up to 2000 and back again and have been club captain/secretary etc. I am hopeless at allegro finishes but tnments with adjrnmts are rare here(tried tactics trainer one day with a bottle of wine, am still rubbish at speed). Have had OTB wins and draws against FIDE rated players but equally have lost to much weaker players.Turnbased allows a better standard of chess I think, using book/dbases during a live game you absorb more. I never had the discipline to study and analyse after the game otb, rather hit the bar for a Guinness. The ability to use the analysis board or a set compared to doing it mentally allows an ordinary player like me to compete better.
