Occupation: National Chess Player
I am Naman Goyal, 23 years from India. I am pursuing Chartered Accountancy course (one of the most prestigious & toughest course in India). I am very passionate about my dreams. I am very lazy too.....
I love to play all kinds of sports specially Chess & Badminton.
I still remember when I Lost my First badminton match by 21-9, 21-8 to the Intercollegiate Champion & he was teasing me & I Challenged him for another match next year & after full 1 year, that is, in next Inter-collegiate Event, I Won by 21-4, 21-6. At that time, I came to know what I really am & what I am capable of doing..
In Chess, I haven’t took any Coaching from anywhere, it was just my Passion & my Hard-work due to which I have played Nationals within 1 year from my practice..
I learned playing Chess when i was 10. My mom taught me How to play & the Basic Rules of Chess. From my early days only, I started winning games against my opponents, i nearly won from every opponent living in my Locality. When I was 12 i told my Mom-Dad that i wanted 2 join some Coaching Institute so that i can learn some new things & can Start playing some Tournaments but they refused my Humble request because in those days, Professions like Doctor, engineers were more famous rather than becoming a Chess Player. Since i wanted 2 play Chess badly i stopped Studying & as a result, my Mom-Dad took my Chess Board & threw it away...
After some time, i started studying & realized that they are right from their point of view but i still wanted to play Chess but unfortunately I was alone, there was no one near to play with...
In 2009, when I was 20 years & was in My 2nd year of graduation, our Sport Teacher in practical asked me to draw a Cricket Ground, with Fielders Positions, as i had no idea what are d positions so i didnt make it & stood in front of him with my head down. He asked me," Why havent i made the ground?? I replied,"Sir, my fav. game is Chess". He asked me to wait till the practical gets over & asked 4 a Match." I waited for 2 hours & after the Practical was Completed, he brought a Chess Board from another room. We started playing & after a long fight, we agreed for a draw. Sir then asked me, from where have u taken Coaching & am i interested in representing my College in Inter-collegiate Tournament?? I replied, "Sir, i haven’t taken any Coaching till now & i would love 2 represent the College. Sir, then gave me a person's number & asked him 2 teach me some new things. I contacted that person & he played a game with me & based on my game, he recommended me some openings & handed me some opening lectures.. I studied those lectures on my own & represented My college..
As a Result, Our College team was 2nd in d Event; I won 4 matches out of 6... At that time, my Mom-Dad realized my Passion & as a result they allowed me to Play Tournaments..
But till that time, I was pursuing Chartered Accountancy Course also, so i didn’t had much of a choice & time as i had to study for nearly 12-14 hours daily & hardly any time is left for my Chess Practice.. Still, i cut my Sleeping time & started studying those Opening Lectures. ..
Within some months of my practice, i got selected for Nationals which was started from 23 Dec, 2009. In that tournament, I scored 4/10 matches but in that tournament i came across many things which i haven’t even heard off, like positional chess, pinning a piece, sacrificing of pieces, weak squares, how to take advantage of bad pawn structure or a bad piece, tactics, middle game & end game… Till now, I just know few openings only & played what is the most natural move on the board.. In that National I came across many new things & I started working on it with the help of internet & started learning everything I was weak in….
Till today, am learning but at least I am somewhat satisfied because I know I stand somewhere in the middle-end of the total chess players list & I know that I am on the very right track & will soon make it to the Top Place….
