About Me:
We live in the Dandenongs, east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I am retired but am busy with being a Treasurer of our local chess club and Treasurer (volunteer position) of the Board of Management of a mental health services association. I love nature and walk for an hour almost daily into the National Park opposite our home. My doctor tells me to do that! I love reading, driving, bushwalking, astronomy and enjoy helping others with their computers or other issues. My wife and I are now into our 43th year of marriage. We have three grandchildren. I have lived and worked in The Netherlands, England, Wales, and now in Australia. I have played chess since childhood. I did well in the Netherlands Youth Chess Championships when I was 16, truly a very long time ago. Since then, I have played club chess on and off and from 2000, also return based chess on internet. After a lay-off of almost 14 years, I have started playing club chess again when a local club was established in 2006. I know that I have a long way to go before I reach reasonable ratings again. I simply play chess, because I like this game very much. Ratings have to come secondary, otherwise it becomes a stressful exercise.
