I found a bag filled with chess pieces in my grandmother's yard when I was about 7 or 8 years old.
When I asked whose it was, she said it belonged to my father. He'd traveled to the U.S., and left the pieces. They were pressed against the leaning tree for so long that they became a part of it. This drew a curiosity in me for the game. When I was in the 8th grade, I told this story to a local newspaper who interviewed my team mates and I after tying for second place in a tournament held in NJ. Today, this game became our way of bonding. Although I wish I could, I couldn't make up for the times lost. But, everytime we get together I do give him my best.
