About Me:

I am the owner and operator of the Rook House chess website (www.rookhouse.com) and of the Rook House chess blog (www.rookhouse.com/blog). Both sites are primarily focused on historical chess facts, tournaments, and players. Favorite players would include: Jackson W. Showalter, Bobby Fischer, Joseph Henry Blackburne, Paul Morphy, Boris Spassky, James Mason, George Henry Mackenzie, and Mikhail Chigorin.  I am in the process of writing a long overdue book on Jackson W. Showalter. I just recently learned the game of chess a few years ago. Immediately after I thought I knew how to play, I entered a USCF "Heritage" event and was properly introduced to the game of chess, hence my very low OTB rating (just below 900). My online rating through approximately 300 games is 1724, but I have been evaluated by a NM as about a 1400 player. I hope to find time to play more often and to get my disgraceful OTB rating a little higher. I exclusively play a King's pawn opening as White and I am somewhat partial to the Ruy Lopez, Caro-Kann, Sicilian, and Nimzo-Indian defenses.
