About Me:
I have been playing chess off and on now for about 3 years. I have a feeling if I buckled down and practiced, practiced, practiced I could be better at it. But that never seems to be the case.
What do I do? I work in advertising. Long workdays that keep me away from my computer. Which means go into a game knowing there'll be a good 12 to 24 hours between moves. I can't do much about that. I always warn opponents that I work 50+ hour weeks.
I like to chat and you are welcome to dive into a conversation anytime. I am a wise-cracking storyteller. But not chatting is fine, too. I figure everyone is different so it makes no difference to me.
I very much enjoy learning openings so it is appreciated when opponents tell me the name of their opening or what is their favorite opening -something along those lines. (I don't always reply but it probably means I'm looking up the etymology on Wikipedia or something...) I am still quite a novice. I tried to learn openings from books but found they sunk in better when I see them played.
Let's see, what else... I have several other hobbies: kayaking, biking, hiking, traveling. I do a lot of reading. And I especially enjoy drawing cartoons (check out my photo album!) I'm sure there is more that will come to me. For now, send me a challenge!
