Lost and confused. What am I doing here? Similarly to all of you (who are reading this?), I enjoy pushing wood, plastic or cyber figures on a board. Yeah, geeky, but heh... At least you improve, right? I mean, it makes you smarter. I hope so. Took up this activity on December 2007, when I had nothing better to do during my breaks between classes at school. Sounds strange to you? Well, I used to go to the geek'iest school in my country, Vilnius lyceum's International Baccaulaureatte (is that a word???). I guess that explains it. You see, since almost everyone used to solve Higher Level Maths problems between classes, you really didn't have anything better to do - you couldn't mess about, have any interesting conversations,.. if you didn't want everyone look to you as if you're an idiot. Can I get a "woot woot!" ?? So yeah, extreme chess, emotional chess, chess with heavy metal in the background is what I do there.
Recently, that is, over the last 12-15 months, I realised how important your academic environment is. Upon graduating the International Baccalaureate last year (2009) and going to University I feel really dumbed-down. My chess 'performance' and motivation dropped drastically and I've been trying ever since to light the spark that would make me interested in the game again... Alas, if only University studies were as demanding as I.B. studies were. Good times...
