Learned to play chess at school in the 1960s; a school friend named Simon Tite taught me and I walked into every silly checkmate you can imagine.
Played a lot 1979 to 1999; by a lot I mean club chess, weekend tournament chess, postal chess (both domestic & international). Gave up chess as my profession took up increasing amounts of time and energy. Never had much of a chess rating; at best 1400.
I was lucky enough to play in a few simuls against IMs & GMs and I have the perfect score; NIL!! But it was very enjoyable at the time. And I was a spectator at the London leg (Game 1) of the Karpov/Kasparov match in 1986.
My career has changed and I have more time for interests and in the last few months I have rediscovered my interest in chess and I joined this site; early days but I like the site and using the learning materials. I can only get better
