Been playing chess for 40+ years and still learning. Business travel is screwing with OTB games hence my presence online. Have to admit that not being able to see your opponent is weird, and, the wait for an opponent's "correspondence" chess move seems to get longer and longer. Chess was meant to be played and enjoyed OTB, however, given my circumstances I'm overjoyed that this website exists. Correspondence chess has actually improved my game (if such a thing is possible) by its design! Time!! Time to analyse each and every move to death before committing to an actual move. Couple this with the incredible amount of chess data that can be mined online it is a wonder that I still manage to screw up a winning position :(
LOL, to err is truly human
Like every chess player on this planet I want to win every game and hate losing.
Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat. There is much written about chess strategy and chess tactics. Personally I do my best to learn as much as possible about an opponent's playing history. When you play in an open OTB tournament against unknowns it's back to basics. Play to your strengths and don't be intimidated and don't be afraid of playing aggressive moves - after all it is a game of war!
