About Me:
Although I play chess for fun and enjoyment, at heart I am rather competitive and try my best to win every game. It's the fight that counts, and it's not a real fight if winning is not the goal. I try to base my moves on the requirements of the position, and not on some preconceived notion of what is supposed to happen or what I personally want to do. If there's one thing I've learned it is that chess is about molding your play to what's there on the board and not some vague mental intention. In this way chess forces us to grow, but here are some hangups I can't get rid of: 1. It pains me when I can tell that my opponent plays the same opening moves regardless of what their opponent does. 2. It also pains me when my opponent spends the entire game looking for one or two move checkmates. 3. Resign when the game is lost, and I will pay you the same respect.

Wittgenstein on Chess So far as I know, Wittgenstein is not known for any games of chess that he played.  On the other hand, the Austrian born philosopher frequently made of use of the game to clarify his notion of a language game.  I ...Read more »
